Talk PR: An interview with TheWrap’s Sharon Waxman | eNews from OWC

Sharon Waxman is a best-selling author and former Hollywood correspondent for The New York Times who founded TheWrap in 2009 to go head-to-head with Variety and The Hollywood Reporter. Her digital-first approach to entertainment journalism has made TheWrap a must-read for the entertainment business.

“There’s a huge opportunity for us as the traditional Hollywood system continues to consolidate,” said Waxman. “Entertainment is defined so much more broadly now with tech companies like YouTube, gaming and live entertainment.”

On the latest episode of OWC’s “Talk PR” video series, Waxman dives into the state of entertainment journalism, the economics of the industry in Los Angeles and the intersection between entertainment and politics.

OWC Earned a Feature in PV Magazine for Nuvve

California-based electric vehicle charging technology developer Nuvve Holding Corp. said vehicle-to-grid connectivity could play an important role in supporting U.S. grid stability in 2025 and beyond. A white paper released by the company pointed out that the adoption of EV school buses promises to be a key driver of the bidirectional charging infrastructure market.

The report asserts that EV adoption is hampered more broadly by a lack of charging infrastructure, particularly in low-income areas and along inter-city routes. Nuvve calls for more charging stations in high-traffic locations, such as convenience stores, shopping malls and hotels.

In addition, the white paper said, “for commercial heavy-duty electric vehicles, the energy needs are even higher, and high-power charging is needed at depots, warehouses, logistics centers, ports, and alongside the [main] truck transit routes.”

One of the main points of the white paper is that EV reliance on an electric grid that increasingly depends on variable renewable energy is leading to a “tipping point.” High retail prices for electricity, increasing demand from all loads (e.g., electrification, manufacturing, EVs) and delays in solar interconnection are combining to create a crisis situation, according to the Nuvve white paper:

OWC Secured Coverage for Nuvve in MicroGrid Knowledge

Electric vehicles (EV) often sit idle, which creates opportunities for them to become mobile microgrids that utilize bidirectional charging to send battery power to the grid, homes and businesses.

In a move that’s said to convey an important market signal about the benefits of bidirectional charging, Governor Gavin Newsom on September 27 signed into law SB 59, which could lead to the California Energy Commission (CEC) requiring classes of EVs sold in California to include bidirectional charging capability.

Working with Exelon at the Delmarva Power New Castle Regional Office, Nuvve Holding, which provides V2G technology, deployed its Nuvve PowerPort3 Ultra chargers, which allowed parked Ford Mach-E EVs to deliver grid services.

In July, Nuvve broke ground on a project in Fresno designed to improve air quality, reduce operational costs and supply electricity to the grid during peak hours.

With a $16 million award from the Fresno Economic Opportunities Commission (EOC) to power EOC’s operations and electrify the commission’s fleet, Nuvve will install a solar farm, solar canopies and 56 charging stations. Fresno EOC will  use the V2G technology as it transitions its gas vehicles into a 50-shuttle electric fleet. The project includes four on-site batteries that will help Fresno EOC power its kitchen and transit, cut emissions, reduce energy costs and enhance grid services.

The Nuvve platform manages local resources across multiple sites. The company participates in the California Emergency Load Reduction Program and frequency regulation in Denmark by aggregating EV fleets as a virtual power plant, said Nuvve co-founder and CEO Gregory Poilasne.

Combatting Deepfakes to Preserve Brand Trust | eNews from OWC

The rise of deepfakes seriously threatens brand trust and reputation. As these manipulation technologies become more advanced, businesses must stay ahead and alert to potential damage and misinformation. To prepare for this new wave of digital deceit, companies need to be informed and alert to their vulnerabilities. Deepfakes use artificial intelligence to create realistic videos, audio or images of people appearing to say or do things they never did. The easy availability of this technology amplifies the potential for disinformation to go viral, with devastating effects on business. Such fraud increased worldwide by over tenfold from 2022 to 2023.

Companies need to address the following in their 2025 strategic plans:

  • Rapid Response Planning –Respond decisively. Start with an official statement from the targeted person that debunks falsehoods. Any deepfake social media video should be followed by a response video setting the record straight.
  • Cyber Reputation Plan – Identify a trusted third-party reputation service to track the digital footprint of the culprit and delete files off hosted platforms. Our partner Digijaks uses forensic data online to combat deepfakes and beef up web security to prevent future issues.
  • Legal Advisor Recommendations – New laws are addressing the prevalence of deepfakes, enabling politicians, celebrities, businesses or individuals to take action against deepfake creators and distributors.
  • Crisis Communications Planning – Transparency and education counter deepfakes. Customers are aware of the potential for misinformation and, when warned, are more likely to scrutinize the content and trust verified sources. Make this a priority for 2025 planning.
  • Digital Identity Security – Companies today need a consistent and recognizable digital presence more than ever before and now have the means to protect videos, images and other digital assets. Watermarking and similar security measures ensure authentic content across communication channels with provable traceability, thus bolstering trust and identifying deceptive content.

The potential for a deepfake attack puts every business on watch and ready for instant response. Don’t fall asleep in the foxhole.
